In autumn 2008, a BARD 5.0 test and pilot wind turbine was installed off Hooksiel, some 400 metres from the levee. This was the first time the engineers used a BARD tripile foundation.
This gave the BARD installation team a first opportunity to test and evaluate the interaction between the foundation, the wind energy converter and its components under real conditions for subsequent offshore deployment. The generated power is fed into the gas and electricity plant in Wilhelmshaven via a 20-kV cable.
