In autumn 2008 we installed a ‘BARD 5.0’ test and demonstration wind turbine in the Outer Jade off Hooksiel near Wilhelmshaven. This involved using a ‘BARD Tripile I’ foundation for the first time. The nearshore wind turbine, which has a rated output of 5 megawatts, is level with the Ineos loading jetty about 400 metres from the dyke line. It gave the BARD installation team and the other service providers involved their first opportunity to practice the nitty gritty of working together on assembling the foundation, the wind turbine and its components from the water in real conditions and subject to external influences with a view to subsequent deployment offshore. The energy generated is supplied to gas- und electric power station in Wilhelmshaven via a 20 kV cable.
