The so-called „BARD 5.0“ is a special wind energy converter of the 5 MW (megawatt) class designed for the rough conditions of open sea.
The rotor shaft revolves in a two-rowed tapered roller bearing which is mounted together with the gearbox upon the main bearing which is made out of vibration-reducing nodular cast iron. The three-bladed rotor is arranged towards the windward side. A ‘”BARD 5.0” achieves its nominal output already at a light breeze and does not need to be turned off before the wind reaches a wind force of 11 Beaufort (equivalent to heavy storms of 30 m/s). Five azimuth drives between tower and nacelle insure that our wind energy converters are always ideally positioned in the direction towards the wind. The performance is controlled by the blade angle. As the controls of the blades are buffered by battery power, they are – even in the case of power failure – able to turn the blades in a resting position.
